We’re giving away three scholarships…
February 18, 2021 | Amy Behning

At MindFire, when we have a spark, we like to nurture it into a full-fledged fire. It’s why we established the MindFire Light the Spark Scholarship program for high school seniors in Rock Island and Scott County who want to pursue a career in a creative field such as graphic design, copywriting, public relations, marketing and/or brand development.

With the scholarships, we hope to encourage the young minds of tomorrow to pursue their interests in the creative field along with the academic and professional work that lights a spark within them.

The scholarship program consists of three one-time gifts of $2,000.02. Why the two cents? For us, the scholarships represent more than just a monetary opportunity. We want to support students by providing our ‘two cents’ when they are looking for career advice.

The three scholarships being offered are listed below.

Developing Designers Scholarship

Amount: $2,000.02

Do you find yourself doodling in your notebook or sketching on your iPad? Or maybe art is your favorite class? This scholarship recognizes talented students with a specific interest in design/visual arts.

As a young design professional, Arsonist Elliott Klauer says, “I’m really glad MindFire is providing a scholarship specifically for future designers. It’s nice to shine a light on those students who spend time designing and expressing themselves through visual arts. We’re looking forward to seeing the creative work the students submit.”

Raising Writers Scholarship

Amount: $2,000.02

Are you on the yearbook committee or a writer for the school newspaper? We want YOU to pursue your passion! This scholarship recognizes talented students with a specific interest in writing.

Working in public relations, Arsonist Sarah Larson knows the importance of compelling words. “I’m really excited to showcase the importance of writing in the workplace. I was in yearbook and newspaper when I was in high school, and I think it’s so important for students to understand the value of writing. I hope all students who love to write pursue that passion.”

Championing Diversity Scholarship

Amount: $2,000.02

This scholarship recognizes students skilled in writing and design who are from diverse and multicultural backgrounds, including those who identify as members of the LGBTQ community and/or those with disabilities.

We know our industry doesn’t reflect the diverse world we live in, and we want to change that by creating the change we want to see in the creative industry.

How to apply

Visit mindfirecomm.com/scholarships. Verify your eligibility and then complete the online form. To be eligible, students must plan to enroll in an accredited two-or four-year college or university within the United States during the 2021-2022 academic year.

Students can apply for any or all of the scholarships; however, only one scholarship can be awarded per individual. The application is the same for each, and applicants can select which Light the Spark scholarships they’re pursuing upon application.

The main component of the Light the Spark application is a creative portfolio showcasing writing and/or design work. High school seniors can submit coursework or work created in extracurricular activities, internships or on their own motivation.

How will my application be judged?

The MindFire scholarship selection committee will base their selection on the student’s submitted work and their passion and talent as demonstrated in their portfolio and application.
